  • The establishment of Garrison State Bank Agency, a subsidiary company of Garrison State Bank & Trust, with Mike as the managing agent.

  • Mike became a licensed Realtor® with Coldwell Banker 1st Minot Realty, adding another service to the office.

  • Mike became a licensed Broker and opened up his own Real Estate firm, West Inkster Realty. The name serves as a meaningful reminder of where his journey began—his hometown of Inkster—and reflects how far that journey has taken him west.

  • Garrison State Bank Agency was renamed Garrison Insurance as Mike became part owner and in 2019 the agency moved to a new home at 11 Central Ave East.

  • Garrison Insurance officially became a family business with Mike's wife, Tonee, joining him in ownership and daughter McKaila joining the team.

Hailing from Inkster—famously known as the only “I” town in North Dakota—Mike is the youngest of four siblings and a graduate of North Dakota State University with a degree in Animal Science. He made Garrison his home in 1987 when he began serving as USDA Executive Director for FSA/ASCS in McLean and Oliver Counties. In 1993, his wife Tonee & him welcomed twin girls into the world, McKaila & McKenzie.

In 1997, Mike stepped into a leadership role as managing agent of Garrison State Bank & Agency, and by 1999, he expanded services by becoming a licensed Realtor with Coldwell Banker 1st Minot Realty. His entrepreneurial drive led him to become a licensed broker in 2013, opening his own real estate firm, West Inkster Realty. In 2019, the agency was renamed to Garrison Insurance as it evolved with Mike becoming part owner, and by 2021, it proudly became a family business with his wife, Tonee, joining in ownership and his daughter, McKaila, becoming part of the team.

Deeply rooted in the Garrison community, Mike is known for his passion, vision, and forward-thinking ideas. Over the years, he has contributed countless volunteer hours, served on numerous boards, and played a key role in numerous projects that continue to shape the area’s success. Today, he remains actively involved in organizations such as the Garrison Fire Department, the Garrison Area Improvement Association, North Dakota Firefighters Museum, and the Garrison CVB.

If he isn’t volunteering, Mike enjoys spending time out at his lot called “West Inkster” and cooking is his passion - he loves finding new recipes to try.

Mike is committed to the community he calls home—and to helping others find their place in it.

Mckaila behles

Born and raised in Garrison, ND, McKaila grew up with deep roots in the community alongside her twin sister. She graduated from Northland Community & Technical College with a degree in Sales & Marketing and later married her high school sweetheart, Nick. Together, they are raising four children—Graecyn, Brynlee, and twins, Stetson and Walker.

From an early age, McKaila was taught the value of community involvement by her father, Mike, a lesson that continues to shape her personal and professional life. After spending a short time away at college, she returned home, driven by her strong passion for and connection to Garrison. She went on to serve as the Director for the Garrison Convention & Visitors’ Bureau for over eight years, helping promote and grow the community she loves.

In 2021, when her parents took full ownership of the family agency, McKaila joined the business as a licensed insurance agent. Bringing her marketing expertise into the real estate side of the operation, she expanded her role by becoming a licensed Realtor in 2024.

McKaila remains actively involved in the community through her work with the Garrison CVB, Garrison Area Improvement Association, Dickens Village Festival, and the Garrison All School Reunion Committee.

She enjoys spending time with her family, where her natural warmth and energy shine brightest in her role as a mother. Her twin, McKenzie, is one of her greatest friends and supporters.
